Who am I and why am I writing?
My name is Jakub Borowski, it's 2024, I'm 30 years old, just became a father, and have been working in the software industry for almost 10 years. Why has it taken me so long to start writing and publishing my thoughts? I think it's a number of reasons. Fear of judgement by my colleagues or even random strangers that exist online. Thinking that my thoughts or opinions don't matter or that no one will care. That's sort of why I started this blog. It's for me and no one else in particular. I'm ultimately hoping to use this as a way to improve my writing skills and just get ideas and thoughts off my mind. If someone happens to stumble upon this and gains something from it that's amazing! But I'm finally writing things down and hoping to keep it going.
What will you find here?
I'll be writing about whatever comes to mind. Some days it might be about life, others might be about a technical problem I've encountered and solved or some library or tech that's new to me and I find interesting. There might also be a fair bit of posts about cycling and bicycles in general. I'm currently trying to figure out a chainline issue on one of my bikes that I'll probably write about.
This blog will evolve over time
I've already got plenty of ideas to improve the site including a toggle for light mode/dark mode (the current site is basically yoinked from a Next.js template that's just black background with light text). I'd also like to add a little read time counter because I always like to know how long a blog or article is before committing to reading through. For now this site is just hosted on Vercel, but I hope to one day go down the homelab rabbit hole and eventually self-host.
